Two and a half hours on a double-deck catamaran out of the Los Cabos marina, with a hydrophone in the water and the Arch on the way out.
Updated 4 November 2026
The whale watching catamaran Cabo trip lasts 2.5 hours and runs on a French-made double-deck catamaran from the marina in Los Cabos. A hydrophone goes into the water during the observation, which is the single situation in which Mexican rules allow a boat to shut the engine off while whales are being watched; the rest of the time the engine stays running in neutral. Guides narrate in English, and the crew serves appetizers and drinks from the open bar on board.
The Arch is scenery on this cruise, with about 15 minutes alongside the rock, the sea lion colony that lives on it and the Lovers and Divorce beaches. Whale watching is restricted inside a 2-kilometre zone around the Arch of Cabo San Lucas, so the whales themselves are found further out, in the water off the cape and along the Pacific coastline.
Distance has a legal floor. Under NOM-131-SEMARNAT-2010 a medium or large boat holds at least 80 metres from a humpback, no more than four boats may stay around the same whale or group, and 30 minutes is the maximum. Humpbacks reach about 60 feet and up to roughly 40 tons, with flukes up to 18 feet wide and a bushy blow 10 to 16 feet high, which is why a raised tail or a spout reads clearly from the upper deck at that range.
Dates come from the federal notice, not from the weather. For 2026-2027 whale watching in the Cabo San Lucas area is authorized from 15 December 2026 to 30 April 2027, and the official Los Cabos tourism board puts the peak between January and March. Prices start from $129 per adult, the listing rating is 4.9 ★ (2294 reviews), the round-trip transportation fee is paid at check-in and the dock entrance fee is not included.

The three alternatives below also sail from Cabo San Lucas. The lunch cruise and the dinner cruise both run 2.5 hours from $115 and build the time on the water around a meal, while the Luxury Whale Watch Cruise to The Arch is the shortest at 2 hours from $95, with a maximum of 16 travellers and a live guide in English. Choose the catamaran on this page if you want the hydrophone and the open bar in the same 2.5 hours.
